Orange Beach authorizes up to $775,000 in funding for school programs

The Orange Beach City Council unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the execution of a performance contract with Makos Academics, Arts and Athletics Club (MAAAC) during the Jan. 5 council meeting. The city’s previous performance contract with MAAAC expired Dec. 31, 2020.

The performance agreement will provide a maximum aggregate amount of funding up to $775,000. Funding requests will be submitted to the city clerk and will be added to the City Council agenda for a decision.

The funding can be used to support extracurricular and after-school activities related to athletics, the arts and academics including the purchase of specialized school equipment and supplies that are not provided by the Baldwin County Board of Education.

The MAAAC is a nonprofit organization that supports the public education in the city by improving the classroom experience and outcomes for students and teachers within the Orange Beach schools.
