The Lighthouse hosts Domestic Violence Vigil

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — Purple balloons were released in memory of victims who have died from domestic violence as The Lighthouse: A Beacon of Hope, hosted its Second Annual Domestic Violence Vigil Thursday, Oct. 22 at the pavilion at Honeybee Park in Robertsdale. The event was held as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October.

“It is extremely important to remember victims of domestic violence and bring awareness to this crime and its impact on individuals, families and the community,” said Rhyon Ervin, executive director of The Lighthouse. “It is also equally important to continue to offer hope to those who have experienced domestic violence and to celebrate those who have moved beyond it.”

Following an opening prayer, a welcome was presented by Mayor Charles Murphy, followed by a reading from Robertsdale Police Chief Brad Kendrick, and comments from Sheriff Huey “Hoss” Mack Jr. Special guest speaker for the event was District Attorney Robert Wilters. Victim impact statements were also presented and the names of the victims were spoken at the vigil.

Since 1990, over 25 women, children and men in Baldwin County have lost their lives to domestic violence, including one police officer responding to a domestic violence call. A non-profit agency founded in 1994, The Lighthouse provides domestic violence services to Baldwin, Monroe, Conecuh, and Escambia counties in Alabama.
