Annual Magnolia Springs Firefighter Festival happening Oct. 23

MAGNOLIA SPRINGS - The second-ever Magnolia Springs Firefighter Festival will return on Saturday, Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. The event will take place on the lawn in front of the Magnolia Springs Volunteer Fire Department (14809 Gates Ave.) and entry into the event is free. Department volunteers will be onsite cooking and selling pre-plated lunches of pork or chicken, sides, a roll and a drink. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. The department will also be selling t-shirts for $20. All proceeds from the sale of lunch plates and shirts will go to the Magnolia Springs Volunteer Fire Department. This will be a rain or shine event.

The department held its inaugural event during September 2019. During 2020, the decision was made to move the festival to October when the weather would be cooler. Unfortunately, the decision was made to cancel due to COVID-19 concerns and destruction left in the wake of Hurricane Sally. This year, the volunteers are looking forward to growing the festival and bringing the community together.

Three local bands will play during the festival, Strickly Rivers, Tim Robinson and Stormfolk. A variety of arts and crafts vendors will be set up on the lawn for shopping opportunities, and with the holidays quickly approaching it’s never too early to start purchasing gifts (for others or yourself). Attendees are welcome to bring their own blanket or chairs and set up in front of the stage with their food and drinks to enjoy an afternoon of live music. A kids’ area will be set up with a bounce house, cornhole and other games, an inflatable maze and an area to view the department’s firetruck and gear.

With the proceeds raised from this year’s festival, volunteers hope to purchase lifesaving equipment as well as potentially purchasing a new boat to respond to emergencies and rescues on the area’s waterways.

“It’s been a pretty rough year for us, especially in 2020,” said Lieutenant Hannah Driskell. “This year has been so much better, and we’re hoping people are wanting to come out and support their local fire department. We’re all volunteers, and with these funds we’ll be able to buy more equipment and help our community even more.”

Hand sanitizing stations will be situated throughout the event. Masks will be optional. To learn more about the event and to see sponsorship opportunities, visit the website at https://magnoliaspringsfire.com.
