Eleven Daphne High student athletes sign with collegiate programs

DAPHNE - Ala. - Eleven Daphne High student athletes were recognized for their accomplishment of making postsecondary plans to play sports at the next level today. Surrounded by family, friends, coaches, and the Daphne High administration, the athletes signed their letters of intent to officially accept athletic scholarships offered to them by the following colleges/universities:

 • Madison Calkins (Volleyball) – University of Southern Mississippi

- 3 Year Starter, 95 kills, 228 UE, 2908 points, 1st D-1 Beach Volleyball Player in DHS History, and SGA - Junior Class & Senior Class Vice President. IB/A+ Honor Roll Student, National Honor Society, and 4.0 GPA.

o “Madison has been a leader, the staple of our team, and an extremely hard worker. She will approach this next phase of her life with all the ingredients for a very successful college career and future.” – Coach Monique Williams (Head Volleyball Coach)

Lance Paquette (Cross Country), University of Mobile

4 Year Starter, Fourth fastest runner in the County, 2 Time All County, and 2019 Baldwin County XC Champion. A/B Honor Roll Student, Scholar Athlete Awardee, and 3.32 GPA.

o “His desire to succeed and to be a team player are unmatched. He has set records and will continue to do so at the University of Mobile .” – Coach Holly Hunter (Head Cross Country Coach)

Kai Levy (Soccer), Spring Hill College

 2 Year Letterman, Team Captain, and Ranked #87 in the State. Peer Leader, Member of DHS Tennis Team, A/B Honor Roll Student and 3.29 GPA.

o “I have not spent a large amount of time with Kai as this is my first season but what I have seen is a young man that is an outstanding athlete, student, and peer. His commitment to success will be a valuable asset to Spring Hill.” – Coach Adam Looney (Head Soccer Coach)

Matthew Brooks (Tennis), University of Mobile

6 Year Starter, 6 Year All County Award Winner, 5 Years as #1 Seed, Ranked in the Top 5 of the State, and Two Time State Qualifier. A/B Honor Roll Student, 29 ACT, and Presidential Scholarship Recipient.

o “Matthew has been achieving success since he was little, and he won’t stop doing so at the college level. We are very proud of his accomplishments at Daphne and look forward to seeing more of them from him at the University of Mobile.” – Coach Lance Thomas (Head Tennis Coach)

 • Zoey Bembry (Basketball), Southern Union State Community College

  231 Points, 55 Steals, 216 Rebounds, 96 blocks, and 2019-20 1st Team All-County. AP Student, Special Olympics Volunteer, and 3.86 GPA.

o “Zoey has a great spirit that sometimes seems at odds with her dominant athletic ability. It is these two traits that have made her a great member of our team, a successful student and athlete, and it is what will make her an exceptional player for Southern Union State. They are getting a gem.” – Coach Kimyatta Perry (Head Ladies Basketball Coach)

Delaney Clark (Bowling), Spring Hill College

2018 All County, 2019 All County, #3 Overall in South Regional 2018, and No. 12 Overall in South Regional 2019. A/B Honor Roll Student and National Honor Society.

o “When I met Delaney, she told me that she was the best bowler ever from Daphne. She was telling the truth. She is a remarkable bowler, impressive student, and all-around great person. I have enjoyed being her coach and look forward to her being the best bowler out of Spring Hill.” – Coach Zach Golson (Head Bowling Coach)

Logan Heiter (Football), University of West Florida 

Tight End/Halfback, Team Captain, Member of the DHS Track Team, and Leadership Council. A+ Honor Roll Student, Scholar Athlete Awardee, and 3.68 GPA.

o “Logan is a player that I would pick to be on my team every year if I could. He is respectful, coachable, and an impressive young man. He works hard in the weight room, on the field, and in the classroom. It has been an honor and privilege to coach him.” – Coach Kenny King (Head Football Coach).

Willie Molden (Football), Point University

Offensive Lineman, 2-year letterman. 2019 Season Stats: 415 plays, 307 plus plays, 3 penalties, 0 sacks, 0 bad snaps. 2019 All County – 1st Team Offense, 2019 Leadership Council, and 50+Community Service Hours.

o “Willie is my favorite. When Willie puts his mind to something, his commitment and hard work are unstoppable. I’ve been proud of the man he has become and know he will make the best of his opportunity and future.” – Coach Matthew Wells (Offensive Line Coach)

Jarius Pruitt (Football), Mississippi College

Defensive End/Linebacker  2019 Season Stats: 20 solo tackles, 28 assisted tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 4 QB hurries, 6.5 sacks, 2 interceptions, 1 fumble recovery, 1 TD. 2019 All County – 1st Team Defense, 2019 All Region, 2018 All County-HM, 2019 Team Captain, and 3.12 GPA.

o “It has been great to see the young man that Jarius has become and how his mindset has grown on and off the field. I’m proud of him and will continue to be proud of him as he attends college and prepares for a really great future.” –Coach Atlas Herrion (Defensive Line Coach)

Nick Dotson (Football), Millsaps College

Offensive Lineman, 2-year letterman. 2019 Season: 201 plays, 126 plus plays, 0 penalties, 0 bad snaps, 0 sacks. A/B Honor Roll, National Honor Society, and 3.96 GPA.

o “Nick has overcome a lot to reach this point since his car accident before his junior season. It has been an honor to watch him continue to fight and strive and I know that he will take those lessons and characteristics to Millsaps.” – Coach Zach Golson (Offensive Coordinator)

Hamilton Baker (Football), United States Military Academy West Point

Strong Safety/Linebacker, 3 Year Starter, 2019 Team Captain, LeadershipCouncil President, 2019 2nd Team All Coastal, 2018 1st Team All County, and 2017 2nd Team All County. 2 Year Varsity Letterman-Basketball, Special Needs Partner, A/B Honor Roll *3.7 GPA, and Kappa League,
