John Anthony “Tony” Welborn, 80, a resident of Daphne passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. Mr. Welborn was in the 1959 graduating class of Murphy High School. Following graduation, he served 8 years with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He went on to operate equipment for International Paper for 32 years. Tony also dedicated 30 years as a leader of the Boy Scouts. An avid fan of Mardi Gras, he was a member of a mystic society. Additionally, Tony was a devoted member of Eastern Shore Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Urel and Ella Welborn; son, Stephen Welborn; brother, Charles Welborn and sister, Patsy Mattison. Tony is survived by his wife, Julie Davis Welborn of Daphne; son, John Michael (Suzy) Welborn of Clanton; daughter, Alexis McCarthy of Daphne; step-daughters, Catherine (Sean) Smith of Gulfport, MS and Molly McCarthy of Winterhaven, FL; grandchildren, Katherine Welborn, John Mark Welborn, Christian Smith, Collin Smith, and Caroline Smith; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at Wolfe- Bayview Funeral Homes, Daphne chapel on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow at Jubilee Memorial Gardens in Daphne.
