LOXLEY, Alabama — No evidence of a bomb was found after units from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office and Loxley Police Department were called to the Buc-ee’s Travel Center in Loxley Tuesday night.
According to a social media post by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, units responded to the area at around 7 p.m. Tuesday in reference to a bomb threat.
“The area is being evacuated so further investigation can take place,” according to the post.
At around 8:20 p.m., a follow-up was posted:
“No devices were located. Loxley PD will be conducting an investigation into the origin of the call.”
Lt. Doug Phillips with the Loxley Police Department said the call came from an unknown number to another agency, which was then transferred to Loxley and the Sheriff’s Department.
Loxley police officers and BCSO deputies conducted a walk-through with Buc-ee’s officials and found no evidence of a device, Phillips said.
“All appearances are that it was just a hoax,” he said. While he would not give any specifics of the investigation, Phillips said they are “working on several avenues” in order to track down the source of the threat.
In all, Phillips said, business at Buc-ee’s was shut down for about two hours because of the threat.
