BAY MINETTE, Alabama — Capt. Jeremy McKissack was recognized with the First Responder of the Year Award, presented by the North Baldwin Chamber of Commerce at its annual banquet held March 25.

McKissack entered retirement at the end of 2020. Earlier in the year, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor in the base of his brain stem and has been undergoing treatment ever since.

McKissack was presented the award by Michael Walker, the inaugural recipient who called him an "exceptional" choice and celebrated him as a “top notch firefighter and human being.”

McKissask's career spanned more than 20 years with the Bay Minette Fire Department. He also worked part-time with Daphne Fire Department and as a volunteer firefighter with Rabun and Perdido.
