Randy Kurtts takes seat 3 on Elberta Council

Posted

ELBERTA - Randy Kurtts was nominated to take place three on the Elberta Council during the Oct. council meeting. The first vote yielded four nominations for Kurtts and one for Teresa Newton, but after discussion the final vote yielded a unanimous yes for Kurtts from all councilmembers and the mayor.

Kurtts served on the council in the past and currently is the chairman of the planning commission, a position he will be resigning due to his new status as councilmember. He works as the construction project manager for the City of Foley, and has more than thirty years of experience in the engineering and construction fields.

“We’re glad to have Randy on our team,” said Mayor Jim Hamby. “He’s a member of the Miflin community and we need representation for that area, so we’re very happy to now have that. He has extra skills and talents that are going to come very much in handy when we start building the Sportsplex, sidewalk projects, road paving, and things of that nature. He has a lot of things that he brings to the council.”

The seat became vacant when former councilmember and past mayor pro-tem Michael Hudson resigned his position. The formal resignation came when Hudson moved out of the town limits, restricting him from serving on the council. He had served two terms.

Since Hudson’s resignation, councilmember Steve Kirkpatrick has been appointed as mayor pro-tem, while councilmember Alma Doege was appointed to the Personnel Committee, which Hudson also previously served on.
