LOXLEY — An Elberta man was taken to the Robertsdale jail on domestic charges following a wreck near Loxley Elementary School Wednesday morning that sent the school into a temporary soft lockdown.

According to Robertsdale Police records, 29-year-old Roshelle Michael Benson of Elberta was arrested at 8:25 a.m. Wednesday on charges of domestic-harassment-family.

Lt. Doug Phillips with the Loxley PD said that department received a call Wednesday morning from a subject who said they were being followed by another vehicle.

Apparently, the pursuit began following a domestic dispute in Robertsdale, Phillips said.

The two vehicles were involved in a wreck at the corner of Alabama 59 and County Road 64, less than a half-mile from Loxley Elementary after which Benson allegedly confronted the occupants of the other vehicle.

Benson then apparently drove away from the scene, Phillips said, and Loxley Police were able to conduct a traffic stop at the corner of County Road 64 and County Road 49 with assistance from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department.

Since the incident began in Robertsdale, police from that city were dispatched and Benson was arrested and taken back to Robertsdale.

No further information was released from the Robertsdale Police Department.

The incident put Loxley Elementary School on soft lockdown for about 10 minutes, Phillips said, but the school was never in danger.
