SILVERHILL, Alabama — Students at Silverhill School participated in Read Across America Day, also known as Dr Seuss Day, on Wednesday, March 4.

Professionals from throughout the area visited the school, talked to students about their profession and read a book to the students.

Before joining their respective classes, they met for a program in the Silverhill School library, where members of the Peer Helpers group at Silverhill School gave a presentation about Dr. Seuss and the history of Read Across America Day.

Students also spoke about what they wanted to do for a career and what they needed to do in order to achieve those goals.

The day is held to honor the birthday on March 2 of Dr Seuss, Theodor Seuss Geisel, an American artist, book publisher, animator, poet, political cartoonist and author, best known for authoring over 60 children’s books.

Read Across America Day was inaugurated in the United States by the National Education Association, a professional interest organization and labor union headquartered in Washington, D.C.

The organization represents public school teachers, plus other support personnel, staffers and faculty at universities and colleges, educators that have retired and college students who are preparing to become teachers.
