Thanksgiving Service held in Lillian

Posted

The sanctuary at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lillian was filled to capacity as the Optimist Club of Perdido Bay hosted the Alabama Bicentennial Community Thanksgiving Service.

This is an annual event shared by pastors from Lillian, rotating to a different church each year. It was especially appropriate to have the service at St. Joseph in the bicentennial year, as it was the first church in Lillian, established in 1914. Many of the Lillian congregations used the original chapel on Santa Piedro Street and US Highway 98 to conduct services until their churches were built.

Participating in this year’s event were Lillian United Methodist Church, Bayside Baptist Church, New Mt. Marriah Missionary Baptist Church, Eternal Life Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, First Baptist Church of Lillian and Lillian Fellowship. Divine Revelation Deliverance Center was scheduled, but was unable to participate due to a family emergency.

After the service in the church, participants gathered in Immaculate Mary Hall for music by church choirs from St. Joseph, LUMC, Mt. Marriah and Bayside Baptist. The food was provided by the Optimist Club and St. Joseph Church. Fellowship was enjoyed by all who attended.

The 2020 Community Thanksgiving Service will be hosted by Bayside Baptist Church.
