10th Free Little Library installed in North Baldwin

Posted

Another Free Little Library has been installed in North Baldwin in a partnership between the Kiwanis Club and the Bay Minette Public Library.

The newest addition was placed at Sye Davis Park at 393 Nesbitt St. in Bay Minette. These mini libraries are stocked full of books that are free for the taking. The concept is simple: take what you want and leave behind what you can.

"Our Little Free Libraries have been a wonderfully popular addition to our services and outreach in the community. People are so good about helping to keep them stocked," said Joanna Bailey, library director. "We are so grateful to the Bay Minette Kiwanis Club for sponsoring one of the LFLs so we can expand our outreach even further into the community. It is so exciting to see everyone embrace this concept and help put books into the hands of everyone in our area."

Bay Minette Public Library installed its first little libraries in 2015, and the program has grown to 10 locations across the area. These locations now include Sye Davis Park, Kids Park, Lottie Volunteer Fire Department, Dollar General stores in Perdido and Stockton, Vaughn SAIL Center, Pine Grove Elementary School, Delta Elementary School, Douglasville School of Arts and Recreation and 40880 County Road 39 in White House Fork.

Each library is registered with the Little Free Library organization and entered into the national database on their world map. Since the books are not part of the library system, they do not have to be checked out, and no library card is required.
