Fairhope High School, Daphne High School and Gulf Shores High School have been ranked among the top 25 schools in Alabama, according to a report by U.S. News and World Report.

According to the report, schools are ranked based on college readiness, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth and graduation rate. The U.S. News rankings include data on nearly 25,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Daphne jumped from No. 40, while Fairhope fell from 10, according to AL.com. While Daphne and Fairhope have previously ranked on the list in 2022, Gulf Shores High School appears for the first time. U.S. News ranks the vast majority of public high schools in the U.S., but in some cases high schools do not receive a rank. According to the U.S. News FAQ page, reasons for being unranked can include because it did not have a 12th grade (typically for newer schools), it had an enrollment of fewer than 15 12th-graders or its state suppressed too much of its assessment data to be used in the rankings. Also, certain specialty schools, such as those with vocational orientations, are not included. There are around 7,000 unranked schools listed on USNews.com.

"This is a remarkable accomplishment and a testament to our students and faculty's dedication, hard work and commitment to learning. Out of 388 high schools in the state, DHS [Daphne High School] has secured an impressive 24th ranking," Daphne High School Principal John Comer wrote in a Facebook post. "This is a testament to our student and faculty's dedication hard work and commitment to learning.

"There isn't one thing that makes this milestone possible; it is everything we are doing every day, collectively, together as one."

Rounding out the top 50 schools in the state are Spanish Fort High School at No. 30, Robertsdale High School at No. 43. Elberta High School is No. 59, Foley High School is No. 66, Baldwin County Virtual School is No. 117, and Baldwin County High School is No. 182. Orange Beach High School is unranked.
