AHSAA Central Board of Control approves 2024’s timeline for legislative proposal submissions

MONTGOMERY — The Alabama High School Athletic Association Central Board of Control met on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at the AHSAA office for its Winter meeting.

The Central Board voted to open the legislative proposal process on Monday, Jan. 29, with member schools having four weeks to submit any proposals through DragonFly. Member school principals will be able to vote on the proposals submitted during the month of March.

“I appreciate the Central Board clarifying the legislative proposal process deadlines for our schools,” said AHSAA Executive Director Alvin Briggs. “The time period established for the legislative proposal process is determined by the Central Board, and I commend the CBOC for standing by the constitution and by-laws of the AHSAA.”

The process to change a by-law includes a school submitting a proposal from Jan. 29-Feb. 26. The proposals submitted are then surveyed by the member schools in March and voted on by the Legislative Council in April.

The Board also approved the budget for the upcoming 2024 State Basketball Tournament.

In other Central Board action Wednesday:

  • Heard a presentation from Elberta High School;
  • Heard a presentation concerning the Super 7 and State Basketball Tourney from Knight-Eady spokesman Daniel Smith;
  • Approved 2023 Region and State Volleyball, Cross Country, Section and State Swimming Financial Reports from CFO Amy Gulledge;
  • Reviewed a football playoff comparison financial report for the first four rounds;
