Appalachian State, Arkansas State win Sun Belt Cross Country Championships at Foley’s Graham Creek Nature Preserve

FOLEY — The Arkansas State Red Wolves and Appalachian State Mountaineers claimed team titles at the Sun Belt Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Graham Creek Nature Preserve.

It marked the fourth title in the last five years for the Arkansas State women’s program as well as the third conference championship in Appalachian State history.

Coastal Carolina junior Molly Jones repeated as the women’s 5K individual champion. She ran 16:37.9 to win her second consecutive conference cross country title after a record-setting finish in 2022.

South Alabama senior Teagan Flanagan claimed the men’s individual 8K titles with a time of 23:57.2 for the first time in his career. Flanagan took runner-up honors in both 2022 and 2021.

The Red Wolves earned their fifth overall women’s team championship. Arkansas State scored 48 points, while James Madison was second with 89. Marshall (101), Coastal Carolina (124) and App State (125) also finished in the top five.

The Mountaineer men’s team finished with the lowest point total (28) since 2013 when Troy won the meet with 23 points. Arkansas State was second with 47 and ULM was third with 108. Texas State (122) and South Alabama (123) also finished in the top five of the men’s championship.
