Elberta, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach find end of road in first round of state bowling finals

Baldwin County’s representatives at the AHSAA State Bowling Championships in Mobile were eliminated in the first round of Friday’s finals to find the end of the road.

In the Baker Format bracket with best-of-7 series, Orange Beach fell 4-3 to Scottsboro in the Class 1A-5A girls’ championship. The Makos were also narrowly edged in the pin total where the Wildcats earned a 1,034-994 decision. Scottsboro went on to make the finals but eventually lost to Southside Gadsden by a 4-1 decision.

On the boys’ circuit, both Gulf Shores and Elberta also fell in the first round of the Class 1A-5A finals.

The Dolphins fell to John Carroll Catholic by a 4-1 decision where the Cavaliers registered an 838-746 pin advantage. The Warriors went the distance against East Limestone but dropped a 4-3 series. The Indians also finished with a small lead in the pin total at 1,281-1,118.

Orange Beach made history with the first undefeated regular season in program history, Gulf Shores claimed the first South Regional championship and Elberta was in its fourth consecutive state tournament.
