The Bayshore Christian Eagles swept the Class 3A Section 1 Championships in Andalusia Thursday morning. It marked the fourth consecutive sectional team titles for both squads as each had the first six finishers in their respective races.
Junior Caden Phillippi led the way for the Bayshore Christian boys’ team where his personal-record time of 15:48.20 also set a course record in the 5K run at the Covington County Track and Field Complex. With six more of his Eagle teammates behind him, the next finisher not representing Bayshore Christian, New Brockton junior Grason Wallace, recorded a time of 18:46.11 for eighth place.
For the Eagle girls’ team, it was a time of 19:51.78 that registered first place by Anna Dernlan, a seventh grader. She was followed by five of her Bayshore Christian teammates where freshman Kaitlyn Bybee from Straughn was the first non-Eagle across the line in 22:14.32 for seventh place.
The Bayshore Christian boys’ team advances to defend its Class 3A State Championship and will be searching for a third straight Blue Map trophy after the Eagles claimed the 1A-2A title in 2021.
The girls’ team from Bayshore Christian finished fifth at least year’s 3A state meet after the Eagles took the Red Map trophy as state runners-up their final year in Class 1A-2A.
