It's that time again, when scammers are looking to profit off of innocent winners (and participants) of Gulf Coast Media's Best of Baldwin reader's choice contest. The 2024 contest has officially concluded, with winners announced, and this may attract scammers eager to exploit participants.
Publisher Vince Johnson cautioned against paying for such honors, emphasizing that legitimate winners need not purchase any form of recognition.
"Best of Baldwin awards are free to winners," Johnson said. "They will always be free."
While companies may attempt to peddle awards to both winners and non-winners, it's crucial to note that these accolades lack endorsement from Gulf Coast Media. If you receive any solicitations to purchase awards of any kind, do not pay for an award, plaque, certificate or any other kind of winner announcement.
"If you get contacted about 'buying' an award, always know that it’s a scam and not affiliated with Gulf Coast Media," Johnson said.
Every winner is included in Gulf Coast Media's glossy Best of Baldwin magazine that is available now. Gulf Coast Media also provides framed certificates and window clings to winners to display at their business. Again, these are provided complimentary for every winner.
