Engage, impact, lead: Daphne seeks youth for 2024-2025 Junior City Council

The City of Daphne is currently inviting applications for its upcoming 2024-2025 Daphne Junior City Council.
The vision for the Daphne Junior City Council is to offer the the youth of Daphne an opportunity to engage with and impact the city's leadership. Participants will have the chance to familiarize themselves with the workings of local government while providing insights and suggestions on various municipal matters, including parks, recreation, traffic management, law enforcement and environmental conservation. Through their involvement, students will develop leadership skills and contribute positively to their community, enriching the city with their perspectives.

Expectations for members of Daphne Junior City Council include serving as a liaison between their respective schools and city council, attending at least one committee meeting and one council meeting per month, aiding in the planning of youth-oriented activities, participating in city events, offering input on pertinent issues and maintaining regular communication with city officials and staff members.

Applicants must be high school sophomores, juniors or seniors for the 2024-2025 academic year. While eight members must reside within Daphne city limits, one member may live outside the limits but within the Daphne feeder pattern. Additionally, applicants must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 throughout the school year and must not have any disciplinary referrals resulting in off-campus suspensions.

Applications must be submitted by Friday, May 17, at 5 p.m. Selected candidates will undergo an interview process with members of Daphne City Council. Interested individuals can obtain applications from Daphne City Hall or access them online at www.daphneal.com/485/Daphne-Junior-City-Council.
The application packet must include a completed application form, a one-page essay explaining the applicant's interest in joining the council, two letters of recommendation from non-relative individuals along with their contact information and a signed parental permission form.
