Some of the nation’s best track and field athletes have converged on the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory in New York City for the Nike Indoor Nationals this weekend. Bayside Academy junior Madeline Dudley was among them in the high jump competition.

The four-time state track and field medalist represented Fairhope, Alabama in the girls’ Emerging Elite division Friday morning and finished tied for 22nd overall with a clearance of 4-foot-11.

Dudley used first-attempt clearances at 4-foot-9 and 4-foot-11 but could not pass the 5-foot-1 bar. She finished tied with two athletes from New Jersey (Jade Cruz and Ebony Turner) and one each from Connecticut (Ryan Braccia) and Maryland (Alyssia Quick). Sophomore Ashley Casas from North Carolina won the event with a final height of 5-foot-5, which set a personal record.

Dudley’s personal record sits at 5-foot-2 on both the indoor and outdoor circuits. According to athletic.net, the mark sits second on Bayside Academy’s indoor track record book and tied for fourth on the outdoor track list.

She matched the record in February’s state indoor track championship to earn silver on top of another silver in the long jump. Similarly, during last year’s outdoor track season, Dudley set her personal-record height to win the sectional championship then used a 5-foot clearance to take silver from the state outdoor championships. Dudley added a bronze medal in high jump from the 2022 state outdoor meet when she helped the Admirals sweep the team competitions as only a freshman.

The Bayside Academy junior was joined by nine other Alabamian athletes in being featured on this weekend’s start lists. Other cities represented at the Nike Indoor Nationals included Birmingham (Kennedy Moreland – pole vault), Cullman (Ethan Edgeworth – 1 and 2 mile), Harvest (Alijah Vaughn – 60 and 200 dashes), Huntsville (Bryce McLeary and Bailey Kendrick – 2 mile and 3k; Anna Pierce – 2 mile and 3k), Madison (Khamuri Stevenson – 60 dash; Zaria Parker – 200 dash), Mobile (Charles Perry – 1 mile) and Vestavia Hills (Max Armstrong – 800 run).
