The Robertsdale Garden Club started its 93d year with its first meeting and is under the leadership of President Mary Frances Boykin.
Details were provided for most of the year's programs. Name tags were provided to all members by Mary Ann Lindsay. Butterfly gardens were the topic of the day, and members discussed the various plants that attract butterflies.
After discussing the changes in the Baldwin County Fair, the members decided to not participate this year. Lindsay will investigate participation in the Honey Bee Festival in November.
The Oct. 10 meeting will be hosted by Lindsay. The program will be "Irises Tall Bearded & Louisiana Varieties." Master Gardener Charlotte Hamm will present this program.
November's meeting will be hosted by Judy Neal, which will be a trip and lunch to Bellingrath Gardens.
The December meeting will feature a show case display of various Christmas towns at the home of Sharon Rowland. The members will enjoy an arts and crafts activity. Additionally, the club will also donate a Christmas dinner and gifts for a family. Madeline Fernandes will coordinate this activity.
Pat Weber was winner of the anthurium plant, and Hilda O'Clair was the winner of the staghorn fern both donated by Boykin. A bouquet of flowers donated by O'Clair was presented to Café Acadiana to thank them for allowing the club to use their restaurant for the August planning meeting.
The Robertsdale Garden Club has members from the surrounding towns and invites those who wish to learn about gardening in the south to attend meetings. The club meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. at the PZK Hall, 17933 State Highway 104, Robertsdale, AL 36567.
