When the Bryant-Jordan Student-Athlete Scholarship Program announced regional winners of the Scholar-Athlete and Student Achievement initiatives, five Baldwin County representatives were recognized.

One each from Spanish Fort, Fairhope, St. Michael Catholic, Baldwin County and Foley were honored with some of the $1 million available in scholarships this year. All will be recognized at the 37th-annual Bryant-Jordan Awards Banquet to be held on Monday, April 15, at the Birmingham-Sheraton Hotel.

In the Scholar-Athlete Program, Price Beall from Spanish Fort was the Class 6A Region 1 winner and Sanders Daniell from Fairhope was the Class 7A Region 1 recipient.

For the Student Achievement Program, Samir Crooker from St. Michael Catholic was chosen from Class 4A Region 1, Daelyn Fine from Baldwin County High was the Class 6A Region 1 honoree and Kolton Nero represented Foley as the Class 7A Region 1 selection.

“Each regional recipient will receive a $3,000 scholarship. From the regional recipients, the Bryant-Jordan Selection Committee will select class winners and the overall recipients of the Larry D. Striplin Jr. Scholar-Athlete state award and the Ken & Betty Joy Blankenship Achievement state award, respectively,” reads a Thursday press release. “The class award recipients will receive an additional $3,500 scholarship, and the two individuals named the state award recipients will receive an additional $4,000 in scholarship funds as the overall state winners.”

Over $10 million in scholarship funds has been distributed to student recipients by the Bryant-Jordan Scholarship Program since its inception in 1988.

Each regional recipient will also be eligible for other special scholarships to awarded, including the Dr. Gaylon McCollough Medical Scholarship, the Herman L. “Bubba” Scott Coach’s Scholarship, the W. Edgar Welden Service Award scholarship (two awarded), the United Methodist Children’s Home scholarships (two awarded), the Auburn Football Lettermen’s Scholarships (two awarded), and the Alabama “A” Club Educational & Charitable Foundation Scholarships (two awarded).

In addition, several in-state colleges and junior colleges will present additional scholarships as well. Among the colleges involved with the Bryant-Jordan Program include Auburn University, Jacksonville State University, Samford University, Troy University, The University of Alabama, The University of Alabama-Birmingham, the University of Alabama-Huntsville, the University of Montevallo, The University of North Alabama, the University of South Alabama, and the University of West Alabama.

Community colleges offering scholarships include Beville State, Calhoun, Chattahoochee Valley, Gadsden State, Jefferson State, Northeast Alabama, Northwest-Shoals, Shelton State, Snead State, and Wallace State.

Each high school in the AHSAA may nominate one senior student-athlete in each of the two categories. All students nominated become eligible for the college and community college awards.

Gabe Marsh of Guntersville High School, the 2022 recipient of the Bryant-Jordan Ken & Betty Joy Blankenship Achievement Award, was also recognized by the NFHS at the 2023 National Spirit of Sport Recipient, and Hayden Holton of Elmore County High School was the 2020 recipient of the Ken & Betty Joy Blankenship Achievement Award and the 2021 recipient of the NFHS National Spirit of Sport award.
