The annual Alabama Farm and Land Expo took place Aug. 12 in Mobile, and three participants from Baldwin County competed.

Coleman McKenzie and Gregory Resmondo were two of 22 contestants competing in the Young Farmers Discussion Meet, a simulated committee meeting where participants discuss solutions to current agricultural issues. McKenzie works at McKenzie Farms in Fairhope, while Resmondo is a farm manager at Sirmon Farms in Foley.

Fellow Baldwin County resident Trey Colley competed at the event in the Excellence in Agriculture contest.

Colley is currently a senior manager in innovation and equipment technology at GreenPoint Ag in Spanish Fort, working on the implementation of digital agriculture technologies.

At the event, Colley showcased the role that agriculture has played in his life and presented solutions to major hurdles facing agriculture today.

The Alabama Farmers Federation Farm and Land Expo is an annual event where young farmers from age 18 to 35 compete for prizes and gain experience advocating for agriculture by participating in various contests.

The four finalists of the discussion meet were Miller Bonds of Limestone County, Caleb Beason of Franklin County, Gavin Rankins of Chambers County and Greyson Lauderdale of Limestone County.

These finalists will compete during the Federation's annual meeting in December, and the winner will receive a new four wheeler, sponsored by First South Farm Credit.
