The Fairhope Pirates will head to Foley on Thursday night to face off against the Lions for the 101st Battle of the Blue and Gold on Smith-Pigott Field at Ivan Jones Stadium with kickoff set for 7 p.m.

Last year was a battle that finished with Foley on top 39-38 to hand Fairhope its first loss of the season in Week 7. This year, both teams will enter 0-2 in Class 7A Region 1 as part of losing streaks that sit at three for the Lions and four for the Pirates.

Foley’s victory in last year’s meeting also snapped a streak of five straight wins for Fairhope in the all-time series. Heading into this week’s contest, the Lions hold the all-time lead at 53-43-4 having outscored the Pirates 1,863-1,483.

The Foley offense is led by senior Kolton Nero who surpassed the century mark in rushing yards last week. His 1,096 yards on the ground sat eighth in MaxPreps’ state rankings through five games.

Senior Preston Godfrey is the clubhouse leader in yards for the Fairhope offense with 625 total yards between 241 rushing yards, 324 passing yards and 60 receiving yards to go along with 3 rushing touchdowns. Classmate Dallas Boothe leads the Pirate tacklers with 44 total tackles between 28 solos and 16 assists including 3 tackles for loss in addition to 1 sack, 1 pass breakup and 1 fumble recovery in 5 games.

St. Michael Cardinals at Orange Beach Makos: Friday, Oct. 6, 7 p.m.

Team records entering play: St. Michael will enter 3-3 and 2-1 in Class 4A Region 1, Orange Beach will enter 0-5 and 0-3 in region. Last year: Cardinals won 49-41 in teams’ first meeting.

Another rematch of a shootout from last year will come in Orange Beach when the Makos host the St. Michael Cardinals for a key game within Class 4A Region 1.

The visiting Cardinals’ last region game came in a 42-8 win over Satsuma where the Makos fell 27-14 to T.R. Miller on the road two weeks ago but both teams lost in non-region action last week.

St. Michael freshman quarterback Gunner Rivers has taken over the offense and racked up 1,710 passing yards on 137 completions with 19 touchdowns for an average of 285 yards per game. His yardage is good enough for third on MaxPreps’ state rankings as of Tuesday where he sits only 62 yards behind Tuscaloosa Academy’s Preston Lancaster.

Rivers has also only thrown two interceptions on the season, one in the first game against Gulf Shores and another in the Week 4 win over Escambia County.

T.R. Miller Tigers at Bayside Academy Admirals: Friday, Oct. 6, 7 p.m.

Team records entering play: Bayside Academy opened 4-1, T.R. Miller started 3-2 where both teams are 2-1 within Class 4A Region 1. Last year: Tigers won 28-3. All-time series: T.R. Miller leads 11-4.

Bayside Academy is set for another game with major playoff implications fresh off a bye week.

Both teams have only lost to Jackson so far in region play where the Admirals still have to play Orange Beach, Escambia County and Satsuma. The Tigers will close region play against Escambia County, Satsuma and St. Michael.

Sophomore sensations Sammy Dunn and Damien Tate have led the Bayside Academy offense at quarterback and running back. Dunn has completed 60 throws for 877 passing yards with 11 touchdowns where Tate has caught 220 of those yards on 13 receptions with 2 touchdowns. Tate has also added a team-high 381 rushing yards on 52 carries with 2 touchdowns and a pair of 100-plus-yard games.

Senior Tait Moore has led the receivers with 231 receiving yards on 14 catches with 4 touchdowns in addition to 52 rushing yards on 5 carries with 2 touchdowns. Moore has also contributed 16 total tackles as one of 13 Admirals with double-digit tackles through 5 games.
