Happy Earth Day! Earth Day 2024 is Monday, April 22. How will you celebrate?

If you are looking for a way to celebrate this weekend, Gulf Coast Media has put together a list of Earth Day events happening around the Gulf Coast.

Have you ever wondered how Earth Day got its start? According to the Library of Congress, Earth Day was observed for the first time 54 years ago, when an estimated 20 million people attended events across the United States. The events were organized after Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin, called upon students to, "fight for environmental causes and oppose environmental degradation with the same energy that they displayed in opposing the Vietnam War." Just 20 years after the initial Earth Day, more than 200 million people in 141 countries participated in Earth Day celebrations.
