Baldwin County Public School Superintendent Eddie Tyler and the Baldwin County Board of Education recently announced the appointment of Renee Carter as assistant superintendent of elementary education.

Carter has served as a teacher, reading coach, curriculum leader, assistant principal, special education coordinator, curriculum coordinator, and most recently, dean of academics. She has had stints at schools in Mobile, Satsuma, Chatom, Southern Choctaw and Millry. She has worked at the district level in Washington County and Baldwin County Public Schools.

Throughout her 30-plus-years as an educator, Carter's role has changed, but her passion and purpose have not wavered. She still strives to be a lifelong learner with the goal of leading in academic settings for the betterment of students, staff and stakeholders.

In her new role, Carter will focus on academics and school improvement at the elementary level. She will join Joe Sharp (secondary education) and Marty McRae (athletics and student services) who are currently Assistant Superintendents for the county.

"Mrs. Carter hit the ground running when she was put in the position of academic dean which is something I took into account when considering her for this position," Tyler said in the announcement release. "As you know, academics leads in Baldwin County and we need someone strong and with that vision as assistant superintendent. We are excited to see where this next position takes Mrs. Carter and where she takes the system while in it."

Carter earned her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from the University of West Alabama after she attended Coastal Alabama Community College. She went on to earn a Master of Arts in school administration from West Alabama.
