Looking for a challenge? Get out and see the state of Alabama while exploring its state parks by joining the 100 Alabama Miles Challenge.

The 100 Alabama Miles Challenge is a statewide program aimed at inspiring residents to embrace an active, healthy lifestyle by exploring the beautiful natural resources Alabama has to offer. With 21 state parks encompassing 45,300 acres of land and water, there is no shortage of places to explore.

The goal of the challenge is to accumulate 100 miles, regardless of the mode of transportation used, whether it's walking, running, hiking, biking, swimming or paddling. Although it sounds like an impossible task, breaking it down into manageable 2-mile increments will help you complete it in no time. For more information on the challenge or to find places to explore, visit www.100alabamamiles.com.

Start your challenge this Saturday at Blakeley State Park in Spanish Fort. The park is hosting a kickoff event that includes a 2-mile guided hike along a section of the Civil War Battlefield, led by park staff. Explore the natural environment while learning about the park's unique cultural heritage. Registration for the event is free and a limited number of commemorative T-shirts will be available for participants. Visit www.blakeleypark.com to register.
