Blakeley to offer special local history cruises from Five Rivers

Posted

Historic Blakeley State Park will offer two special cruises exploring the Mobile area's rich military heritage on Saturday, Sept. 23.

Both depart from the Bartram Landing Dock on the campus of the Five Rivers Delta Resource Center. These one-of-a-kind journeys showcase the consequential battles, which took place here in both the Revolutionary War and the Civil War.

At 9 a.m., the cruises embark on a three-hour excursion traversing Mobile Bay to learn about the fighting that took place in both Mobile and along the Eastern Shore during the Revolutionary War. Mobile was part of a British colony called West Florida at the time, and it became a battleground as British and Spanish forces fought for control of the region. At 1 p.m., attendees will take an hour and a half voyage into the currents of our local Civil War history as they visit the sites where the war's last major campaign, for Mobile, took place.
