Several graves were damaged after a car crashed into a cemetery in Foley on Dec. 12.
According to the Foley Police Department, an officer spotted a Dodge van late Tuesday night alongside the damaged graves, with the driver nowhere to be found. Shortly after, the owner of the van called Foley police and reported the vehicle as stolen.
Following an investigation, officers arrested Jack Rowe of Foley, alleging he was the driver of the vehicle.
The investigation also indicated that Rowe is the owner of the vehicle, and he was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident and filing a false police report. Rowe was booked into the Foley jail on Dec. 14.
According to the department , the vehicle crashed into the Southside Baptist Church Cemetery, also referred to as the Beulah Heights Cemetery.
Other media outlets reported that repairs to the damaged graves were scheduled to begin on Thursday, Dec. 14.
Southside Baptist Church has not responded to Gulf Coast Media's request for comment
