Once again, applications for Alabama's 529 College Counts college savings fund scholarship are open to eligible students across the state. Per an official release, the scholarship offers awards of $4,000 for four-year college enrollees and $2,000 for two-year college enrollees.

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be high school seniors or first-time college planning to enroll in an Alabama eligible educational institution in fall 2024. Applicants must have at least a 2.75 grade point average (GPA), an ACT score of 26 or below and demonstrate financial need.

According to the release, approximately two scholarships will be awarded per county to students across the entire state. The scholarships must be applied to tuition, fees, books, supplies and equipment required for course load, including computers. Scholarships may also be applied to on-campus room and board expense or off-campus housing if enrolled at least half-time and billed through the school.

"Since 2013 we have been pleased to award $10.5 million to more than 3,000 Alabama students going to Alabama colleges. We encourage school counselors and financial aid officers to let students know about this scholarship program. College Counts is investing in Alabama's students and we hope they will invest in our State's future," said State Treasurer of Alabama Young Boozer.

Applications are open now, and will close at 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 29 and award recipients will be notified via email by the end of April.
