Daphne claims area championship undefeated in inaugural flag football season

Trojans set to host Class 6A-7A Area 2 Tournament starting Oct. 30

With a 14-13 win in overtime over the Baldwin County Tigers, the Daphne Trojans won the regular-season title from Class 6A-7A Area 2 with a 10-0 record in their inaugural season. The Trojans also earned the right to host the Region 1 Tournament which is scheduled to start on Monday, Oct. 30.

Baldwin County similarly entered the area championship game undefeated in its inaugural campaign and battled to a 7-7 score at the end of regulation. The Tigers were set to close their regular season against Satsuma at home on Tuesday, Oct. 24.

Jubilee Stadium in Daphne will host the Region 1 Tournament starting next Monday where the Trojans will open as a top seed against Area 1 runner-up MGM. Baldwin County will open its region tournament against Area 1 champion Alma-Bryant.

The ultimate winner of the regional bracket will be one of eight teams that advance to the final bracket that will eventually crown a state champion.

In its first season as a varsity squad, Daphne also earned wins over B.C. Rain (33-7 and 14-0), Mary G. Montgomery (24-6), Satsuma (28-6), Baker (47-6), Theodore (20-12), McGill-Toolen (19-12), LeFlore (31-6) and Davidson (36-6) to help finish 3-0 in area play.

Baldwin County entered its regular-season finale with a 4-1-1 overall record with wins over LeFlore (35-12), Satsuma, Davidson and McGill-Toolen (25-6) as well as a tie with MGM for a 2-1 mark in the area standings.
