Dragonfly Foodbar takes flight: Fairhope restaurant relocating

Posted

Dragonfly Foodbar is leaving the Central Business District (CBD) of Fairhope and flying south.

After 13 years of business in the CBD of Fairhope, Doug and Brie Kerr are moving the restaurant south 1.7 miles on South Section Street. The current building houses Ahi Seafood Market at 18874 Section Street.

Followers of the Kerrs on social media knew something was up when Brie posted a photo of herself hanging a “Coming Soon” sign on Facebook. That evening, Doug posted photos of the building, and by Wednesday morning, two large "For Lease" signs were posted in the small yard of the restaurant.

The biggest question buzzing on social media is why Dragonfly is moving. It boils down to rent.

“Our rent was raised to the point where we wouldn’t be able to continue to do what we’ve been doing in downtown Fairhope for 13 years,” Doug Kerr said. “It has been a blessing in disguise.”

Dragonfly’s new home is the Ahi Seafood Market location. It is unclear what Ahi Seafood Market’s plans are.

The new location is outside of the Central Business District, and the building is near Pirate Pit and neighborhoods like the Colony at The Grand and Old Battles Place Apartments.

Hungry Dragonfly fans have some time to enjoy the downtown location. Doug Kerr said their last day at the current location is St. Patrick’s Day, Sunday, March 17.

“We are getting all ducks in a row now, so hopefully it’s a smooth transition,” Doug Kerr said. “We have a good bit of work to do on the new location, but when it’s done, it will be epic. Tons of parking and the ability to cater events on the property.”

The facility will give Kerr the space to “do things we could never do at the Church Street location.”
