Edward McCain (Mackey) Hanson entered his Heavenly Home on Apr. 19, 2024, surrounded by his family at North Baldwin Hospital.

Mackey had so many health problems over the years, any one of them could have caused his death but it was a heart attack that he died from. Mackey resided at the William F. Green State Veterans Home in Bay Minette for almost three years.

Mackey is survived by his wife of 49 years, Rebecca (Becky), daughter, Connie Wallace and grandchildren, Brian and Tyler Sexton, and Allie (Richard) Wilson. He is also survived by his remaining sisters, Martha Jo Taylor, and Mary (Gary) Walker, and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Hanson, and Helen VanStory; two sisters, Joyce Langlitz, and Gloria Quinnelly, two brothers, Wilmer Grey (Sonny) Hanson and Emmett Hanson.

Mackey graduated from Fairhope High and after several years he joined the Army. After he was discharged from the Army, he tried various jobs before being hired at Holnon Concrete Company where he worked for 32 years before his retirement for health reasons.

Those who knew Mackey well knew he thought he knew everything and was right about everything and didn’t mind giving his opinion. He loved to talk and would tell everyone that he was the smartest and best looking one in his family. But one thing was certain, he loved the Lord with all his heart and soul and wanted everyone to know the Lord he worshipped. He will be joined in Heaven by a large group of family and friends.

Funeral services were held from Daphne Baptist Church, Wed., Apr. 24, 2024, at 11:00 am. The family received friends one hour prior to service time. Interment followed in Daphne Baptist Cemetery.
