Tevin Brown, a 2,000-point scorer at Fairhope and Murray State’s all-time three-point scoring leader, can add another title to his name: Most Valuable Player of the New Zealand National Basketball League’s Grand Finals.

He helped the Canterbury Rams earn their ninth appearance in the league’s championship game after he averaged 18.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.4 three-pointers per game on the season.

In the Grand Finals on July 23, Brown finished with a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with 23 points and 5 assists to help Canterbury record a 93-82 win over the Auckland Tuatara. The Rams collected their fifth overall NBL championship and hoisted their first trophy since 1992.

Brown also represented Canterbury on the league’s All-Star Five following the regular season and became the first Ram named an all-star since 2019.

Over his 21 games played, Brown finished with the fourth-most points in the NBL (393), sixth-most seals (30) and seventh-most three-pointers made (51). Additionally, the 87 two-pointers he made ranked 10th, his 119 total rebounds were 12th and his 64 assists registered 13th. On the NBL’s Index of Success, a similar stat to the NBA’s efficiency rating, Brown recorded a 374 which ranked eighth in the league.

It was not long after all those numbers were in the books that Brown made his next move and confirmed his signing with the Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92 in France’s top professional league, the LNB Pro A.

The squad from the Paris region had previously served as the professional home for the top pick in the most recent NBA draft, the 7-foot-4, 210-pound Victor Wembanyama, and just finished its season in the championship contest on June 15. The 2023-24 season is set to kick off on Sept. 16.

Brown has been busy since he signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Indiana Pacers the summer after he closed his career with the Murray State Racers in the second round of the NCAA tournament on March 19, 2022.

After he played two Summer League games for the Pacers in July, he suited up for their G League affiliate, the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, and played 46 games between Nov. 5, 2022, and March 28. His first game with the Canterbury Rams was 12 days later, on April 9, where he played until July 23.
