After he was a third-team selection last season, Fairhope senior and Mississippi State commit Trip Duke was recently named to the Alabama Golf Association’s first-team all-state.

The AGA released their players of the year and all-state teams on Thursday, Sept. 7, and included five athletes each on first-, second- and third-teams for both male and female competitors.

Duke’s wins at the Tommy Moore Memorial and Southeast Junior Golf Tour’s Tournament of Champions to close the 2022 calendar year helped carve out his spot on the first-team all-state.

With 398.5 points over 10 events, Duke checked in at No. 3 in the Alabama Boys State Junior Rankings as of this week. That also included top-five finishes at the Peninsula Junior Classic (T3rd), Alabama State Amateur (5th) and Alabama Boys State Junior Championship (3rd).

Duke also logged six points each from his finishes at the Future Masters (T21st) in June and the Junior PGA Championship (40th) in August.

On the high school circuit, Duke qualified for his second state championship before he was named to the South All-Star squad for the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s All-Star Week.

The first-team all-state also included Tyler Watts, a sophomore from Grissom High School who was also named the player of the year, Andrew Hinson from the Randolph School, Jon Ed Steed from Enterprise and Chase Kyes from Spain Park.

Other Baldwin County athletes in the top 50 of the AGA Boys State Junior Rankings included Bayshore Christian’s Michael Heaton (28th with 52 points), Fairhope’s Miles Miller (T42nd with 39.5 points), Daphne’s Blake Cornell (44th with 37.75 points) and Daphne’s Alex Seahorn (T47th with 34 points).
