DAPHNE — With 21 top-three finishes apiece, the Foley Lions and Fairhope Pirates won the girls’ and boys’ team titles from the Baldwin County Public Schools track and field championships Tuesday, April 18, at Jubilee Stadium.

Both squads were powered by the Houston Young Most Outstanding Performers in Foley junior Hope Collins and Fairhope junior Ben Klapp who each made it to the podium in all four of their events on the day.

After he won the pole vault with an 11’ clearance and took third in the long jump with a distance of 21’ 3”, Klapp recorded personal-record times to win the 200- and 400-meter dashes in 22.59 and 50.66 respectively.

Those results contributed 36 points toward the Pirates’ team score which reached 208 points for a 77-point lead over second-place Spanish Fort.

Similarly, Collins recorded two gold medals, one silver and one bronze medal although all her events came on the track. She won the 400-meter dash in 1:00.34 and the 300-meter hurdles in 48.28, earned second in the 800-meter run (2:36.18) and took third in the 100-meter hurdles (17.48).

Collins’ 34 points scored helped the Lions compile 224 points as a team which produced an 89-point lead over second-place Fairhope.

Also in the team competition, both Spanish Fort teams finished in the top three and both Daphne squads earned fourth place. Class 5A Elberta registered a third-place finish in the boys’ competition with 113 total points. Fairhope earned the most combined points between the 208 from the boys’ team and 135 from the girls’ squad.
