South Alabama softball’s career steals leader now hails from Baldwin County.

Gulf Shores alum Mackenzie Brasher registered the 76th stolen base of her collegiate career in Tuesday’s 3-2 loss to McNeese State. Brasher stole 4 bases in her freshman season, 8 as a sophomore, 20 as a junior and 27 as a senior for the Jaguars. Now with 17 steals over 30 games in her graduate season, she surpassed Kaleigh Todd’s previous record held since 2018.

Entering play on Tuesday, Brasher was tied for 21st in the nation’s stolen base rankings amongst Division I softball players. Madisyn Federico from North Florida and Chelie Senini from Nevada held the lead with 24 stolen bases.

Tuesday also marked the 140th consecutive start for Brasher, who has been in every South Alabama lineup since May 7, 2021. With one more, she’ll record her 200th career start and tie Brittany Fowler for the eighth-longest consecutive start streak in program history.

Brasher is also nearing the 200 mark in her career hit total where she enters this weekend’s Sun Belt Conference series against Texas State with 197. She would be only the fifth Jaguar to reach the 200-hit total for her career where Todd is the all-time leader with 231 total hits.

The current team leader with 31 hits this season, Brasher also leads the team in multi-hit games (8) and runs scored (22). With only 19 regular season games remaining, she would need to sustain her pace of one-hit-per-game and record a few more multi-hit games to surpass another one of Todd’s career records.
