Loxley announces development of 45,000-square-foot City Center

The City of Loxley is developing a new 45,000-square-foot City Center to accommodate its increasing population, according to a WHLC Architecture link shared to its Facebook page on Wednesday, April 17.

In the Concept Master Plan provided by WHLC, the four-building complex includes a City Hall (19,434 SF), utilities building (10,620 SF), library (13,985 SF) and museum located off the corner of First Avenue and Railroad Street. The plan also details a central fountain, connecting plazas, landscaped areas, on-street parking and rear-screened parking lots with the idea that design elements are easily navigable and highlight the identity of the community.

"The traditional Southern architectural character features broad porches and balconies shading western facades, multiple garden courtyards and metal roofing," WHLC wrote in its project summary. "The City Hall anchors the main corner along First Avenue with close proximity to the administrative Utilities Building. Similarly, the library and museum are grouped together for shared-visitor convenience. Planned to serve as a catalyst for private mixed-use development surrounding the site, the new City Center well-positions Loxley within the growing region."

WHLC has provided award-winning architectural programming, planning and design along the Gulf South for over 40 years, saying its design solutions are flexible and developed to adapt into the next 40 years. The company takes on multifamily and residential, health care and research, wellness, civic, commercial, education and mixed-use projects in architecture, interiors and planning.

While based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, WHLC currently has locations in Fairhope and Biloxi, Mississippi, as well.
