The Town of Magnolia Springs became a Purple Heart Community during the March 27 council, completing the project’s spread throughout the county.

“By virtue of this proclamation, it completes the circle for every municipality in Baldwin County, as well as the county itself, to support the Purple Heart Program and our Purple Heart veterans,” said Dr. Barry Booth, a local veteran and dentist who brought the idea of a Purple Heart Community to local Purple Heart recipient Ed Evans. “We are mighty, mighty grateful.”

Ed Evans is a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, a congressionally chartered organization whose members have been given the Purple Heart Medal, an honor given to any member of the armed forces who have been wounded or lost under combat conditions. The Military Order delivers programs that include: suicide prevention, assistance for veterans with brain injuries, counseling for post-traumatic stress, and assistance for women’s health issues.

“We are so glad to be able to post these signs in our community,” said Mayor Bob Holk, who encourages everyone to be on the lookout for the new Purple Heart Community signs going up in town.
