Margaret Ann Galloway Walker

Margaret was the youngest child of William Farrow and Flossie Davis Galloway. She was born in Alexander City, Alabama on Oct 30, 1926. Her family moved to Birmingham when she was three years old.

She has been preceded in death by all of her older brothers and sisters, John Garon Galloway, Henry Burbage Galloway, William Ross Galloway, Edward Davis Galloway, Agnes Galloway Corley, Mary Galloway Walker and Sarah Belle Galloway Griffith.

Margaret married Roland Walker Sr. in 1975 after his wife, Mary (Margaret's older sister), passed away. Margaret had no children of her own but was a loving stepmother to Roland Walker Jr (Peggy), Mary Nell Hough (Marvin) and William Walker (Jeanne). She was adored by the grandchildren, Amy Walker, David Walker, Elizabeth Walker Townsend (Rob), Kelly Hough, Jonathan Hough, Michelle Walker Carter (Ben) and Janette Walker Diaz (Evan); and five great-grandchildren. Margaret was devoted to many nieces and nephews as well as her lifelong friend, Mary Gene Gammon Walker.

Margaret grew up in the Woodlawn area of Birmingham, and she and her family were members of Woodlawn Baptist Church. Margaret graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1945 and went to work for General Electric Co. as a secretary where she worked for 30 years. Her last and longest serving manager said, she was the best secretary he had ever had.

Margaret was longtime member of Orange Beach Presbyterian Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, several positions in Presbyterian Women activities, including receiving a Lifetime Membership Award and lastly as an elder in the church. She attended Alabama Presbyterian Cursillo 8 while in Orange Beach.

When her husband, Roland, passed away, she moved to Foley to live with her niece/stepdaughter Mary Nell and joined the First Presbyterian Church of Foley.

She was a kind and generous person who always put others first. She looked for opportunities to give of her time and resources to help others.

The family would like to thank the staff of Oakland Place, Fairhope, Alabama, for their excellent care as well as many others who cared for her in her last days.

Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Foley, Alabama on Friday Dec. 1 at 11 a.m., followed by the burial at Pine Rest Memorial Park in Foley.

The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. prior to the service.
