Wetting a line with your children is a time-honored tradition for many families and the Optimist Club of Perdido Bay has been encouraging children to fish for 20 years.

The 20th-annual Kids Fishing Rodeo is Saturday, May 20, from 9 a.m. to noon at Schaff Pond. The event is open to children ages 2 to 12. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Participants will be treated to a hot dog lunch.

Pack up your chairs, fishing poles and bait and see if your youngin' can catch a prize-winning fish. Awards are given in a variety of categories. Catfish are catch and release only, but bass and bream may be kept.

Schaff Pond is at 32965 Bartel St., Elberta. From Lillian, turn north on County Road 93 for 1 mile. Go west on Bartel Road for four-tenths of a mile and the pond is on the right. Permission forms will be available at the pond.
