Pair of all-county Foley Lions make college football commitments: Yearling headed to West Alabama, Jones Savannah State-bound

A pair of all-county football players from Foley made their commitments to ascend to the next level on recent college visits where each will trade their Lion manes for Tiger stripes.

Defensive back Danarius Yearling was on campus at West Alabama and not only earned an offer but committed on Friday, Jan. 19. Offensive lineman Arnez Jones was originally offered by Savannah State on Dec. 19, 2023, and he made his pledge in person during a Jan. 20 visit to campus.

They became the latest members of Foley’s 2023 team to continue their football careers after Perry Thompson (Auburn) and Logan Joellenbeck (South Alabama) cemented their pledges in the early signing period.

That quartet represented nearly half of the Lions’ all-county honorees where Yearling was named to the first-team defense and Jones was a member of the second-team offense.

Yearling, listed at 6 feet and 165 pounds, also held offers from Holmes Community College and McDougle Technical Institute. Yearling lined up at cornerback and free safety as a senior and could be seen making plays all over the field.

Jones, a 6-foot-3, 380-pounder, was also offered by Huntingdon and Faulkner. Offensively, Jones played left guard this season and registered 34 knockdowns, 18 pancakes and allowed only 1 sack.

West Alabama competes in the Gulf South Conference and finished 5-5 last season with a 4-4 conference record where six Tigers were named all-conference.

Savannah State plays in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and logged a 2-8 record last year with a 1-7 mark in conference. Defensive back Deandre Creary was the Tigers’ lone All-SIAC representative.
