With the playoff picture only continuing to form under the rising heat of the region schedule, some Baldwin County teams will have tall tasks at hand with ranked opponents on the Week 4 docket.

This week’s slate features nine home games for Baldwin County teams where the other two away games will both be played in Mobile. Follow @GCMSportsAL for immediate updates from the sidelines and stay tuned to gulfcoastmedia.com/sports for full coverage.

No. 6 UMS-Wright Bulldogs at No. 4 Gulf Shores Dolphins: Friday, Sept. 15, 7 p.m.

Both teams were ranked and won last week to set up a collision course of a rematch following last year’s matchup that decided the region title.

UMS-Wright’s 35-28 win last year improved its record to 7-0 in the all-time series. Gulf Shores’ 31-16 win over Faith Academy last week served as revenge after the Rams ended the Dolphins postseason in the state quarterfinals. Gulf Shores hadn’t started two consecutive seasons 3-0 until this year.

The Bulldogs’ two wins this season have both come in one-possession games with a 16-14 win over T.R. Miller and a 13-6 win over LeFlore.

No. 1 Saraland Spartans at Spanish Fort Toros: Friday, Sept. 15, 7 p.m.

After they claimed the Class 6A state championship, the Saraland Spartans have been the top-ranked team in the state thanks in part to junior teammates Texas commit KJ Lacey at quarterback and Alabama commit Ryan Willimas at receiver

The Spanish Fort Toro defense that features Alabama commit Sterling Dixon, Louisville commit Cole McConathy and multiple Power 5 targets, among others, will have its tallest test so far this season but will have its home crowd as an advantage. Spanish Fort is 96-22 all-time at home including a 4-1 mark from last season.

The Toros will be looking for their first win over a ranked opponent since a 42-7 win over St. Paul’s on Aug. 27, 2021.

No. 10 Baker Hornets at Foley Lions: Friday, Sept. 15, 7 p.m.

After Foley fell in a ranked matchup last week, the Lions will be looking for a bounce-back game that would also enact revenge on a 56-35 loss from last season.

The first two regular-season polls from the Alabama Sports Writers Association included the Lions for the first time since 2015.

Baker will enter with a 3-0 record which is the program’s best start since a four-game win streak opened the 2014 campaign. Week 4 will be a meeting of two high-powered offenses as Foley averages nearly 30 points a game and the Hornets have registered a 45-point average so far.
