All-state, three-star athlete set to join a host of familiar faces in the Bayou with the Warhawks

Spanish Fort tight end Chandler Wilson made his college decision on Sunday and committed to the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks and former Toro head coach Bryant Vincent who now leads the program.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound athlete will find plenty of familiar faces in the Bayou including Spanish Fort alumni in Jacob Godfrey and Carl Fauntroy who transferred in from New Mexico and UAB, respectively. Taven Curry from Robertsdale also transferred to ULM from UAB and Fairhope senior Ameyr Adams signed with the Warhawks in the early signing period.

Wilson was rated a three-star prospect by On3 and went on to represent the Toros as a second-team all-state and first-team all-county honoree this season. He racked up 143 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns on 13 catches to go along with 31 pancake blocks according to MaxPreps stats.

Wilson held other offers from Keiser, Alabama State, South Dakota, Tennessee and Arkansas State and became the latest member of the 2023 Spanish Fort team that finished 9-3 to ascend to the college ranks. Sterling Dixon signed with Alabama and Cole McConathy signed with Miami in the early signing period. Bree Blackmon and Javonate Walton also made commitments to college programs but have reopened their recruitments.

Another Baldwin County connection to the Bayou will come with ULM’s Director of Speed and Athletic Performance, Clay Templeton. A Gadsden native who played football at UAB, Templeton was most recently the Director of Athletic Performance at Orange Beach High School where Wilson started his high school career.

After three years as a Mako, Wilson transferred to Spanish Fort for his senior season and helped the Toros to their 16th straight playoff appearance. Wilson has a younger sister, Daigle, who has won three state championships with the Orange Beach Mako softball team and committed to Auburn this fall.
