MALBIS – The Baldwin County Major Crimes Unit is investigating an incident in which a police officer fatally shot a suspect early Sunday morning on the Eastern Shore, according to a police statement.

The man killed was identified as Clint Alexander Dearman of Quitman, Miss.

The statement said Dearborn was being sought in connection with another shooting in Choctaw County. He had an outstanding federal warrant for possessing a gun after being convicted of a felony.

Officers from several agencies were looking for Dearborn near the intersection of Interstate 10 and Alabama 181 at about 2 a.m. Sunday, the statement said.

Spanish Fort police officers located his vehicle at the Chevron station on Alabama 181 south of I-10. Daphne police officers and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office arrived to assist.

Officers approached the vehicle. They saw one person in the front passenger seat. While officers were calling out instructions to that person, a second person, later identified as Dearborn, sat up in the back seat.

The officers ordered both men to keep their hands visible. The passenger obey the order. Dearborn climbed into the front seat while holding a pistol, the statement said.

Baldwin County sheriff’s deputies and one Spanish Fort police officer fired at Dearborn. He was hit several times and pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger was treated for a superficial wound at the freestanding emergency room in Malbis and released. The passenger is cooperating in the investigation, the statement said.

The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences will conduct an autopsy on Dearborn.

The BCMCU is investigating the incident. The investigators assigned to the case are from agencies who did not have officers involved in the shooting. Once the investigation is complete, the facts will be presented to the Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office and the Baldwin County grand jury.
