ORANGE BEACH - The trailer for the movie USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage has been released Part of the movie was shot in Orange Beach and features several locals.

Gulf Shores Police Chief Ed Delmore Jr. appears in a courtroom scene in the trailer and his son, Ed Delmore III, filmed a speaking part with Nicolas Cage during a shoot on the USS Alabama in Mobile. 

The ship delivered the atomic bomb used on Hiroshima and was headed back to join its task force when it was torpedoed about two weeks before the war ended.

Because the ship was without an escort, the Indianapolis was not reported missing until four days later. Of 1,197 crewmen aboard, approximately 300 went down with the ship, while the rest faced exposure, dehydration, saltwater poisoning and shark attacks as they waited for assistance. Only 317 sailors survived.

Capt. Butler McVay was court-martialed, then exonerated more than half a century later. Chief Delmore is in background scenes during the court martial trial part of the film.

The younger, handsomer Delmore plays a sailor in the film and had scenes filmed in the water, on a PBY Catalina flying boat and onboard the USS Alabama.
