With severe cold weather moving into the area, schools and businesses are taking precaution.
According to the National Weather Service, overnight lows are expected to dip to 17 degrees Tuesday night in Bay Minette, 19 in Foley, 20 in Fairhope and 22 in Gulf Shores.
Zeke's Restaurant in Orange Beach will be closed early on Jan. 16, starting at 3 p.m. and will reopen Jan. 17 at 11 a.m., weather permitting.
Hello Gallery Art & Things in Fairhope will be closed Jan. 16 and will reopen Jan. 17 at 12 p.m.
Baldwin County Public Schools announced Jan. 15 that classes will be canceled on Tuesday and will resume at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
BCPS released a notice from Superintendent Eddie Tyler, stating, “After significant discussion and consultation with weather and emergency officials, we have decided that Baldwin County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday out of an abundance of caution for possible freezing rain and icy conditions in our area. School and central office employees will not report to work on Tuesday. There will be parts of Baldwin County which will not have any impact from this weather event, but I cannot, in good conscience, require families or buses to be on the roads with ice possible early in the morning.”
Prodisee Pantry also announced that their offices, located at 9315 Spanish Fort Blvd., will be closed Tuesday with offices reopening Wednesday at 10 a.m. The Wednesday Work Night event has been canceled.
"This decision was made out of an abundance of caution for possible freezing rain and icy conditions in our area and following the lead of the Baldwin County School Systems," said Executive Director Deanne Servos. "Bitter cold temperatures will continue into Thursday. Please stay home and stay warm."
Central Christian School, located in Robertsdale, posted an announcement via Facebook from Superintendent Tim Shelton that they will also be closing due to freezing weather conditions.
"The possibility of freezing rain and below freezing temperatures could cause icy conditions," said Shelton. "That possibility may seem somewhat remote, but we have chosen to err on the side of caution."
Classes will resume Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Gulf Shores City Schools announced via Facebook that classes are expected to start at regular time on Tuesday, as they do not anticipate any issues for the Gulf Shores area in the morning.
"Our maintenance staff is checking all heating equipment in our schools and we will also check buses early tomorrow morning. We expect school to start at the regular time tomorrow," read the GSCS Facebook post.
A news release from Superintendent William Wilkes stated, "The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We will continue to monitor, and should the matters change, you will be notified."
St. Michael Catholic School in Fairhope will start school at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Students will be allowed to wear athletic pants or jeans along with school-branded pullovers/sweatshirts. The gym will be open for lunch, and students will eat inside. Any classes that meet in the Field House on Tuesday and Wednesday will meet in the cafeteria.
Bayshore Christian School, also located in Fairhope, will be closed Tuesday and will resume classes at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Carline will begin at 9:30 a.m.
