21st Annual Robertsdale Rotary Rodeo set to proceed as planned

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — Contrary to reports, the 21st Annual PCA Championship Rodeo, set for Friday and Saturday, March 13-14 at the Baldwin County Fairgrounds arena in Robertsdale, has not been canceled because of the threat of the Covid 19 virus, also known as the Coronavirus.

“While we are praying for all our neighbors and the speedy recovery of all those infected, we want to take this opportunity to reiterate that there has not yet been a case of the Covid 19 virus, also known as the Coronavirus, reported in Alabama,” according to a statement released by Rotary Club officials on Thursday. “With that said, we will have antibacterial products placed in strategic locations throughout the rodeo and will do everything in our power to ensure the safety of our guests.”

Advance tickets cost $10 for adults and are available at Greer’s CashSaver in Robertsdale, the Summerdale Western Shore, Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, Bryant Bank locations in Foley and Daphne and Silverhill and Summerdale locations of United Bank.

Friday night is Kid’s Night and children 12 and under are admitted free with a parent or guardian. Saturday advance tickets for children 5 to 12 cost $5.

Friday and Saturday tickets cost $12 on the night of the event for adults; Saturday tickets cost $6 at the gate for ages 5 to 12. Admission for ages 5 and under is free both nights.

“This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and we’re looking forward to putting on a fun event for the whole family,” said 2019-20 Rotary Club President Cheryl Russell. “We enjoy putting this rodeo on and look forward to it each year.”

Gates open each night at 5:30 p.m. Shows start at 7:30 p.m. and feature saddle and bareback bronc riding, calf roping, team roping, steer wrestling, ladies breakaway roping and barrel racing, capped off each night by everyone’s favorite, bull riding.

Entertainment for the event will be provided by Tim “Wild Thang” Lepard, from Pontotoc, Mississippi, and his show, dubbed “Team Ghostriders.” The show features three Capuchin monkeys, Sam, Meglynn and Little E., who dress as cowboys in vests, chaps and cowboy hats, sit in saddles on border collies as they round up sheep in the arena.

Rodeo participants will also once again get the opportunity to win a Henry Golden Boy Long Colt .45 rifle, courtesy of Campbell Hardware.

Raffle tickets are being sold through Rotary Club members or during the event. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20 and a drawing will be held during the rodeo Saturday night.

Participants will also be given the chance to enter a free drawing for a 2020 Ram truck from Rodeo series sponsor Ram Rodeo. Tickets will be available both nights of the event.

Local students are also invited to participate in the annual coloring contest, presented by Bryant Bank. You can pick up an entry form at the Foley and Daphne locations of Bryant Bank or check with your local school. Entry forms will also be available both nights of the event.

One girls’ and one boys’ bicycle, donated by Walmart, will be given away each night during the rodeo.

The event is produced by Bo Campbell Rodeo and is part of the Ram Rodeo Series.
