James E. Haney

James E. Haney born April 3, 1937, left this earth in the arms of angels on July 21, 2023, at 2:22 PM. A service will be held at a later date. Mike, Dana, and Kirk were at his side at the time of passing as witnesses to his ascension. My dad was born in Cleveland Mississippi and moved to Skene Mississippi as a junior in high school. He was preceded in death by his wife Elwanda Haney (1939-2020); his parents William E. Haney (1907-1970) and Edna E. Haney (1916-2006). He is survived by his sisters, Jean Arthur (Comack, New York) and Diane Haney Bennett (Foley, Alabama); three children Dana Tullos (Foley, Alabama), Mike Haney (Bon Secour, Alabama), and Kirk Haney (Grenada, Mississippi). I recall his stories of working in the cotton fields for change. He grew up in hard times. My dad was a member of the MS ARNG for over 25 years and worked behind the parts counter at West Implement for many years. I remember many Saturdays following dad up and down the parts aisle. He worked hard but always had time for family. He coached baseball, liked to hunt, and fish. He loved long rides through the Mississippi Delta countryside with my mom on Sundays after church. He did not like blackberries but did like muscadines as did my mom. They knew several places where we could find them growing in the wild. My dad liked peanuts in his bottled coke. James Haney married Elwanda Thompson (March 19, 1939 – December 8, 2020) on July 19, 1958, and loved her for over 65 years. His world revolved around our mom. There was never a moment of doubt about his love for her. He mourned her passing and was hopeful for their reunion in heaven. I believe he now has that peace. I would like to thank my son William Alexander “Alex” Haney for his many hours of help caring for my dad during the last several months. I could not have done it without you. May God bless you. Many prayers and thanks to the staff at Sanctuary Hospice House – Tupelo. May God bless you.
