Mr. Robert Peter Rucando was a native of New York, New York, a longtime resident of Portsmouth, Rhode Island and a current resident of Fairhope, Alabama. He passed away on May 16, 2023, at the age of 88. Mr. Rucando served in the United States Air Force. He was a financial analyst for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, Rhode Island for over 44 years. Mr. Rucando was an avid sports fan and played softball for many years. He enjoyed his retirement years taking cruises and traveling with his wife Alvida. Mr. Rucando had a huge sense of humor and loved to tell jokes. He was preceded in death by his late wife, Mary T. Rucando and is survived by wife, Alvida Van Iderstine Rucando; children, Claire Smolenski (Alex), Adam Rucando (Susie), Paul Rucando (Tami), Matt Rucando, Jill Perkins, Susan Rutledge (Steve), Debbie Woods (Alan); one brother, John Rucando (Bee); 12 grandchildren, Paul Anthony Perkins, Kelly Catalan, Flynn Woods, Emily Murphy, Alexander Smolenski, Faith Leonard, Zach Leonard, Cole Woods, Laura Smolenski, Robert Rucando, Josh Rutledge, Hannah Rutledge and six great grandchildren. A memorial mass was held Friday, May 19, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. from the St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Jim Morrison officiating. A memorial visitation began at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Patrick's Catholic School, P O Box 609, Robertsdale, Alabama.
